Walking in Confidence

In repentance and rest is your salvation,

in quietness and trust is your strength.

Isaiah 30: 15

Bubbling over with enthusiasm, my granddaughter had just chosen a jumpsuit for her upcoming band concert, and was on a mission to find that perfect pair of matching shoes.

After careful consideration, she lifted up an adorable pair of cork soled platform sandals. Wide–eyed she hurried to locate her size, kicked off her sneakers, and buckled up her dream pair.

Taking it all in with a smile, I wondered why she wanted to grow up so fast. Staggering to a standing position, she balanced with as much grace as any ten year old could muster, and zigzagged across the aisle to where I was standing.

“Wow, look at you!” I reacted.

With a reluctant look, she immediately confessed how much she really loved the shoes, but there was just one problem. “She’d have to learn how to walk all over again!  And when would she find the time to do that?”

With a heavy sigh she abandoned the shoes, and started chatting about the next part of our adventure.

That night I got to thinking about how my precious granddaughter listened to her heart while I stood there without saying a word. Knowing full well that periods of zigzagging through life in disobedience, and neglecting the Truth are part of man’s fallen condition, I knew that down the road decision making wouldn’t always be this easy.

I was reminded of the Lord’s warning to Judah.

“In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength” (Isaiah 30: 15).

Undeserved. Free and forgiven. No matter how many times God’s children stumble and fall He welcomes them home.

As prodigal brothers and sisters we are met with open arms by our Loving Father who listens when we humbly repent and confess our sins, and then showers us with his gifts of unconditional love, forgiveness, and grace.

Quieting our hearts, “setting our minds on things above not on earthly things,” (Colossians 3: 2) we are strengthened by God above.

When we trust the whispers of the Spirit, you and I know it’s possible to walk forward in confidence because we no longer walk alone.

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it” (Isaiah 30: 21).

Willing to follow God’s command, the Holy Spirit is here to correct, and to guide his followers along the best possible path.

Come now, my sister, let’s pause in quietness and trust in the Lord’s Way and not our own.

Let’s pray.

Listening Jesus,

I praise you and thank you for your ultimate sacrifice on the cross. You gave your life for me, and I know, “Apart from you I can do nothing” (John 15:5).

Thank you for granting me patience and making me aware of your presence as I seek direction for myself, and those I care for so deeply.

Help me rest in quiet expectation to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. May He renew my mind so your Word can work in and through me to overcome all evil. May I walk only in the Light of your love, Lord.

Thank you, Jesus, for you alone will make my path straight.

Amen.

Until next time…

May the Spirit of God lead you, the Word of God sustain you, and the promises of God grant you the gift of everlasting peace.

Have a blessed day, my friend. I thank God for you!

With love and blessings...

~How might Paul’s benediction in Romans 15: 13 bring you hope in whatever it is you are going through right now?

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15: 13).

~What is something you can leave behind to be fully present to God’s whispers, signs, and wonders?
